Welcome to Play Like The Plagers!

Welcome to Play Like the Plagers, a new site devoted to St. Louis Blues hockey and the NHL in general.

A few years ago, an online poll ranked Blues fans near the bottom of the league in online presence, and despite fine Blues blogs such as Frozen Notes, Thrashing the Blues, and probably the biggest and baddest St. Louis Game Time, that persona still seems to exist.  Now, with the Blues at the 2011-2012 All-Star break only two points out of the President's Trophy spot, yet with only one player selected for the game (goaltender Brian Elliot), it seemed as good a time as any to start writing about The 'Note.  And with the Blues not having another game for over a week, I'll be able to claim my corner of the interwebs in time for the second half of the season.

For those of you who couldn't tell, the site is named for the Plager Brothers (Barclay, Bobby, and Bill), who terrorized the blue line in the Gateway City from the franchise's early days into the heart of the 70s, and left a mark that's still visible in the Blues style of play to this day.  They played a hard-nosed, intimidating brand of hockey, with a hit-first-ask-questions-later attitude that can be found in many of the cities best and most popular players, from the Plagers to Brian Sutter to Chris Pronger to David Backes.  When the Blues have been at our* best, no one in the league is going to out work us on any given night, and it's all thanks to Barc, Bobby, and Bill.  (...ok, less so Bill, but he was still a Plager, damnit!)

Let's go Blues!

*Over the next day or two, I'll write a whole post about this, but I'm a firm believer in first person pronouns when referring to your team, provided that you keep it consistent (ie, you can't say "We kicked ass!" if you don't also say "We sucked ass.").
